Preparing for Our Future:
Accessible & Age-Friendly Home Design and RenovationsInstructor: Laurie Ringaert, Universal Design Consultant and Researcher
Date: Saturday, May 26th
Time: 1:00 p.m. (tentative)
Cost: $10.00 per person
Location: Activity Room # 1 at the Bowen ComplexAre you prepared for the future?
Our population is aging but most of our homes have steps at the entrance and up to the bedrooms, narrow doors or other issues that make them unsuitable and unsafe for many of us. Nor are our homes designed to accommodate moving furniture in and out or for young children. Increasingly, home owners are also thinking about aging-in-place or needing to accommodate disabled or aging family members.
This course will provide practical tips and hands-on exercises on what to consider for renovations, building new or for making the choice to move to a more accessible home.Information will be provided on local accessibility consulting and design, accessibility standards and grants available to help fund renovation costs.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring along your measuring tape for an interactive session that will move you toward the future. How To Register:
